2009 Events

Fridays in November, 2009

Each week introduced some students to a new Salsa or Party group dance including a Salsa Circle Dance, the Barn Dance, the Desperado Wrap and the Waltz Across Texas. Other students enjoyed Swing Styles, popular in the Denver area with all age groups for medium to fast swing tempos.

Students & visitors enjoyed a variety of social dance music, and an authentic German-group-dance.

Saturday, Oct. 10th 2009

Several students and guests took a break to watch a FREE movie screening of one of our favorite dance movies, the original "Shall We Dance". This film shows many of the concepts we teach, but with a Japanese cultural twist.

Fridays in October, 2009
Line-dancers continued adding new line-dances to their repertoire, while intermediate dance couples combined the best of Country Western and classic Cha-Cha into a fun routine that can be used on any dance floor.
Tues. & Fridays in September, 2009
Tuesday students enjoyed our 2nd offering of the Starlight Waltz, while Friday couples prepared for weddings, practicing Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz and the Latin beat of the Cha-Cha.
Fridays in August, 2009
August dance students enjoyed a fun, flashy dance style for SLOW Prom-type music. The Nightclub 2-Step mixes Foxtrot, Hustle, and Latin Styles. It works well in crowded and open floors, and with music played at weddings, office parties, receptions, and dinner dance clubs. Our line-dancers picked up new dances occasionally featured at Denver dance clubs.
Fridays in July, 2009
Line-dancers added new line-dance moves, while social dance couples prepared for weddings, practicing traditional dances and oom-paahing to the German Polka. Cowboy Cha-Cha dancers learned how cowboys use a relaxed style of Cha-Cha, blending the Latin beat with CW style.
Fridays in June, 2009
As our June line-dancers learned grapevines and kicks, we introduced our "Starlight Waltz" to eager waltzers. Intro. C/W dance couples learned variety is the spice of life with C/W Swing, Two-Step, Triple, Waltz, and popular couples line dances - Country-style.
May 29, 2009
FREE Dance Party:  May students and several new visitors ALL got to practice dance steps from our May classes. Our DJ kept them jumping and took requests through the night. A free line-dance was taught to 7:00 PM arrivals in the South Fellowship, Littleton Activity Room.
May Fridays, 2009

Early-evening students line-danced to Country Western and Rock-n-Roll hits. Intro-class students picked up Social Dance Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, and Swing in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Our intermediate Swing Dance Variety students found that swing isn’t just a 1940’s phenomenon. All ages were jiving with Lindy and East Coast swing.

April 24, 2009 FREE CLASS—Intro to Swing & Waltz: Several couples found out how much fun dancing can be. They got off to a fast start with basic footwork and frame and soon were gliding with the waltz and jiving with the swing. They met at South Fellowship, Littleton and enjoyed complimentary coffee from Solid Grounds and snacks from Healing Strides.
February 7, 2009 Saddling up with Combat Veterans Cowboy Up (CVCU)
Healing Strides was pleased to join CVCU in providing EAP for veterans returning from combat. These men, women, and their families have made extreme sacrifices, and face challenges as they return to civilian life. The after effects of combat can last for years, but existing treatment programs are finite. CVCU offers ongoing support. Click here for more information.
January 3, 2009 Workshop: Financial Fitness for Couples
Tough times can stress even the strongest of marriages. Using our tools and exercises, couples learned to both express his/her financial goals & concerns to work out a financial survival plan and strenghthen their relationship.

November 17, 18, 22, 2008 Open Seminars:  How to Survive the Holidays
Healing Strides presented our free annual Holiday Survival Seminar to the public. Presentation included handouts and simple guidelines for happier holidays. (Held in Highlands Ranch, CO; Parker, CO; and Castle Rock, CO)
October 18, 2008 Open House Media Day at Zumas Rescue Ranch
Healing Strides joined other local therapists to provide EAP demos for several hundred foster care families and their advocates, physicians, counselors, and the general public.
October 14, 2008 End of the year party for Joy House
Joy House residents chose their favorite activities with the ponies to celebrate their last visit for the year. Carol Jones from WindyRidge Thoroughbreds presented the children with beautiful horsehair bracelets from their favorite ponies.
September 27, 2008 EAP Demo for directors of Zuma’s Rescue Ranch
Jo Ellen joined two other local EAP therapists to demonstrate the value of EAP.
September 4, 2008 Zuma’s Rescue Ranch offers a convenient location and premier facility
Jo Ellen met with directors of Zumas Rescue Ranch to discuss partnership between their mission to pair rescue horses with foster children and Healing Strides’ family programs.
August 29, 2008 Healing Strides visits Griffith Center for Children
Jo Ellen Christian met with staff from the Griffith Center in Larkspur to discuss provision of EAP service to residents.
August 12, 2008 Therapy ponies attend summer school
Children from Joy House visited WindyRidge Thoroughbreds to teach their ponies how to pay attention to their trainers. The good news is that the kids learned new skills to help them at school too.
